The Frugal Gamer

Hello fellow gamers I thought I would start this new segment to bring some attention to some really great deals available in both retail outlets and online. I chose frugal because the word “cheap” just has such a negative connotation to it. My purpose for creating this segment was to reach out to like-minded gamers such as myself who enjoy gaming but would rather not spend $60 a pop for every new release that comes out. As gaming has become more and more expensive I’ve had to really curb my spending habits and I’m sure a lot of you can relate to that sentiment. Let’s face it the economy isn’t in the greatest shape right now and every dollar you spend has to count.Pink piggy bank surrounded by stacks of gold coins. Does that mean that our beloved hobby has to take such a critical hit? The answer is NO! What it’s going to take on our part however is a little patience (waiting on prices to drop or sales) and some real bargain hunting to get the most for our dollar. As I have changed my spending habits and as my gaming habits have changed I’ve also discovered some really great games I passed on before like Fable II & III both of which I will list in regards to location and price below.

Play N Trade & GameStop

  • Fable 2 $2.99 0r $14.99(Platinum Edition) pre-owned Xbox360

Well that’s pretty much what I’ve come across so far. My goal is to put this out at least twice a month or as really great deals come my way. Hope this helps and if you come across a really great deal drop me a comment about it. Game on gamerz!

The Valentine Massacre

Happy Valentine’s Day my fellow geeks and nerds. With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching I wanted to write something to celebrate the holiday. Now I could be like everyone else and talk about the greatest video game romances such as Mario and Peach, Link and Zelda, or comics such as Spider-man and MJ, Superman and Lois, and Batman and….Robin? but as anyone who follows knows I don’t like to stick to tradition or rehash what everyone already knows.

Instead I’m going to talk about some characters I think need some love in their life. The ones that don’t have that princess always waiting in another castle.

Top 5: Online games that need more love

The last few weeks AriesKnight and I have been playing Ghostbusters online. What I’ve realized while playing is unfortunately it’s a dying game. This made me think of other dying games that I love and wish they weren’t in their dying state. Below are five games which are dying online and I think you should give them some attention.

Top 5: Games you didn’t know your girlfriend liked.

When you have a girlfriend (or for you ladies, boyfriend), the amount of time you play games or what games you play will change to a certain degree. I for one am lucky enough to have a lady that likes to play with me for the most part. The surprising part you may find are the things she might enjoy playing with you. So in honor of the New Year and all the happy couples that have formed, here are five games that my might actually enjoy playing together.

5. Borderlands 2boarderlands 2

First person shooters are a dime a dozen, but finding one that you can play with your significant other is almost impossible. In walks borderlands. As long as she can run straight you have nothing to worry about. Borderlands gives you unlimited spawns so if she dies, she respawns and joins you again in the fight. Plus there are different ways to play based on how you level up your character. It’s a great co-op game to play with the girlfriend/boyfriend and will keep you both busy for a very long time.

4. Lollipop Chainsawlollipop chainsaw

This one took me by surprise. Not only is there no multiplayer, but the game is so anti girl is ridiculous. However, my love plays it and enjoys it. When I asked why she likes it, she said this. “It’s single player, she’s a female lead, has slutty costumes, and is a freaking zombie slayer.” I would stay vigilant when choosing this for your lady. I’m sure it comes down to a love it or hate it situation and you sure don’t want her to hate it.

3. Uncharted 3Uncharted-3

Uncharted 3 is a very versatile game when it comes to needs. It’s a single player story, it has multiplayer that’s simple enough to understand, and it has co-op if she doesn’t want to play against random strangers. One of the best parts is that if she has an account she can sign on to hers while playing with you. Also like Lollipop chainsaw, she can choose to play online as multiple ladies.

2. Need for speed: Most Wantednfs most wanted

What girl doesn’t love a revving engine? The best part about Need for Speed: Most Wanted is that it’s an open world game where you can just drive around aimlessly speeding and wrecking into anything and everything. Even if she doesn’t drive well in games, it takes no skill to just drive around and go where she wants, and after a while, she may decide to try some races.

1. Mortal Kombat Mortal Kombat

I love my lady and she loves me, but we tend to annoy each other at some point. Sometimes she just needs to rip your head off, even if that means in the game. Possibly the most violent fighter you can find, tons of playful aggression can be released. If she/he is not that good at the game there is a solution. Play Test your Luck where up to seven special effects are given to your opponent and/or you. That way if you, the super star, have a bunch of negative effects, at least your loved one has a chance of beating you.

Well that’s it for the top 5 games that you didn’t know your girlfriend would like. I like doing list like this and hope to bring some more in the months to come. Have a game you want to add to the list? Tell us your experience with your loved one in the comments below.
